If we had judges who apply the laws as written, Bush probably wouldn't have been anointed as president in 2000.

Bush asking for judges to enforce the law is cynical to the point of bleak humor. This is the guy who is on record (source) as saying the US Constitution is "just a goddamn piece of paper", and who has issued over 150 "signing statements" (source), 78% of which raise constitutional questions about the separation of the executive and other branches of government.

This is also the guy who has violated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) more or less continuously since the September 11, 2001 attacks (source), ordering the National Security Agency to intercept telephone calls, emails, text messages and "internet traffic" without warrants from the FISA courts, in violation of FISA.

"Apply the laws as written"? One could only hope.
